Nostalgia
How can a 9 minute long-take of a man carrying a candle across an empty pool be such a stunning parable for the fragility and struggles of a human life? Tarkovsky doesn't need to use excessive dialogue, cuts, and sound as embellishments, but through bare 'simplicity' the film leaves its ideas to be felt and experienced, rather than explained.
"Out, out, brief candle!"
