Resurrection
“better to be a corpse and dream than to live forever and not.”
this is genuinely on such a different level than any movie ive watched in terms of symbolism, plot depth, underlying theme, and cinematography. i cant even fathom trying to define this movie with a genre. its so experimental with the shape and structure of the film, yet i didnt find myself wondering about the how the plot was progressing, i just wanted to see the incredible takes in this movie and only realized how good the plot depth was until halfway through the end credits. this movie intricately combines an overlying plot with an incredible amount of symbolism, along with 4 amazing, unique stories. its all so carefully woven together as if it were a blanket covering us, the viewer. the shots in this movie are so crazy good throughout. the beginning with the turntable, the first story with the crazy transitions, the second story with the setting, the third story with the close shots, the final story with the absolutely wild, Bi Gan signature one shot take. the story of the delirious is so incredibly beautiful because of the symbolism. the delirious representing the viewer, and how imagination and dreaming powers the human psyche. because the “normal people” in the movie may live forever, but what is the earth without art? its just a floating rock. and the fact that the delirious’ heart is powered by film, the purest form of art and the best way to convey dreams and your imagination, is all the more reason this movie’s plot depth is the best ive ever seen.
this movie might take my number one spot. Bi Gan is an absolute master at his craft. 5/5.
