Napoleon
#novepic Entry 3: Abel Gance's Napoleon (Brownlow Restoration)
Runtime: 5 hours 30 minutes
-------------------
The sheer fact that this my 3rd time seeing the movie all the way through, one of those being in a single sitting, and that I can't seem to shut up about it any time I have the chance to bring it up? It'd be stupid not to give it 5 stars at this point.
This will officially be the first time I've given 5-stars fo a movie I don't think is perfect. But maybe its flaws is what I love about it. Even the over-the-top romanticism I eat up every time.
Maybe it's the sense of injustice that this movie isn't taught in film schools & can't be legally accessed in the United States even though it should be in the public domain by now, and that it's all Francis Ford Coppola's fault. Maybe him wasting hundreds of millions & selling his winery to fund Megalopolis was karmic justice for hoarding the rights to one of the most influential movies of the silent era to prop up his dying ego.
Maybe it's Maybelline.

Next up & for the final day of #novepic I'm tackling its sequel: War & Peace, the longest movie I will have ever seen in my life (kinda).
