Peter Pan
THIS MOVIE IS VERY!!!
No, but seriously, I love this movie alot. It’s so cute, and so imaginative, and it’s genuinely written so so well to me. Peter and Wendy have such a beautiful and heartfelt romantic build up to their story, the soundtrack is so gorgeous, and the action always felt fun to watch.
Hook is so… he’s hot. That’s all.
Also wanted to add a weird interpretation to this story that probably doesn’t make too much sense, but oh well:
So I feel like Hook and Tinkerbell both represent negative emotions for Peter. Peter doesn’t want to feel diverse emotions that are upsetting, because they’re too real, and reality is the very thing he wants to run away from, so he pushes them away and unconsciously creates beings that embody those emotions. When Peter is in conflict or upset, these “emotions” grow stronger and become more harmful. Hook represents intense anger, and Tinkerbell represents jealousy. However, since Tinkerbell is one of the good characters, she learns to overcome her jealousy, because she needs to stay alive. Hook, however, is Peter’s most intense negative emotion, and so Hook has to die in order for that emotion to not become dangerous, and Hook cannot overcome this anger, because he is the antagonist. When the movie is over, Tinkerbell is no longer jealous, and Hook is no longer angry (because he’s dead), and now Peter processes and accepts that these emotions are apart of him, because Wendy taught him that it’s okay to live in reality, because he’s no fantastical fairytale being, he’s just a boy with powers, and even though he still goes back to Neverland in the end, the impact is still there.
(Also wanted to mention that I’m just now realizing that Jason Issacs plays both the Darling siblings’ dad, AND Hook, so Hook also represents the worst of toxic masculinity, and is a manifestation of Peter’s worst fears and interpretations and expectations of becoming a man).
Anyways, that was a lot, but I just really really love this story. 100% would recommend!
