Superman
About time I updated my rating!
There's so much I love about this movie and so many scenes I look forward to every time. I'll add other quick thoughts on top of the original review:
"But people were going to die" remains my favorite line of the movie I think. Superman flying into the Kaiju's fire and him breaking the glass of his cage in the pocket universe are my favorite action shots. Lois telling Jimmy to transcribe while flying the saucer was my favorite moment of hers. Lex's monologue is my favorite of his, especially his expression when he yells "WHAT" after being defeated and an employee telling him to look at the news.
I also loved the silence after the team leaves the pocket universe, Rex taking Joey home and Lois helping Superman walk towards the saucer with Krypto running up ahead, loved the vibe!
Mr Terrific and Guy were such cool characters. The needle drop was perfect and Terrific's battle is easily one of my favorites. Same with Guy flipping the tanks. I hope we get to see more of Hawkgirl in the sequel, the constant back and forth with the justice gang name didn't land well imo. I loved the scene with Mali and Lex; I know a lot of people were pleasantly surprised with Lex, but I was personally loving how selfless and trusting Mali was towards Superman considering they'd only really met twice. I always see hostage situations going in the "please don't do this" way (unless they're close). So I thought it was a good way to show how much love people have for Supes vs what Lex was spreading on the internet.
In terms of music, the drop at "Hey buddy, eyes up here", saving the car from a falling building and big blue flying above with "Look up", and of course the final "Walking on air" scene and "Punkrocker" at the end : All top tier.
And my overall favorite scene/sequence is the entirety of Ma and Pa Kent caring for their son. Lois coming to the realization that she does in fact love him, Krypto laying on top of Clark, him eating cereals outside and watching the sunrise, Krypto playing with the cows, Jonathan tearing up, Boravian kid lifting the flag and Clark getting emotional watching the news. I'd mostly tear up during those scenes.
I had a few grievances here and there too.
Some jokes/lines I didn't enjoy as much like the 20 seconds gate opening scene (it's not even that good of a joke but they really overdone it), "I party like a rockstar choir boy", and so on... I'd wince a little watching those lol
I also thought the whole pocket universe part was a tad too long.
After my second rewatch, I warmed up to Eve a lot, but I unfortunately didn't feel the same with Angela. I wish they'd given her one or two lines after the "I sacrificed my humanity for this".
I'm sure I'm skipping a lot because I could talk about it for hours but these were the highlights. Can't wait for the sequel!
