For much of the runtime I was thinking that I don’t really understand why this was such a cultural phenomenon when it came out. And then there was the wallet sequence and the naked guy scene. The “smart heady film for the masses with the funny penis scene” thing. It wasn’t as common in 2004 but a lot of people have tried to bottle that trope.  As a film with something to say about friendships, love, loneliness, and depression it doesn’t really work. As a California and road trip vibes piece where it’s fun to watch Paul do his thing it totally does.
