Phantom Thread

“Kiss me, my girl, before I am sick.” Phantom Thread just became one of my all time favorites films. Everything is perfect. Excellent - The score is fucking unbelievable, every single shot is gorgeous, the lightning is insane, the screenplay is phenomenal, the pace is quite literally perfect. THE PERFORMANCES!!!!!! Oh my goodness. Just over-all perfection. PTA has been one of my favorite directors for a while now. I’ve, with time, become obsessed with his direction style, his tenderness, his attention. But holy shit, this film might just be my favorite of his - I’m so inspired by him, I’m so moved by his passion. It’s hard to choose a favorite aspect of a film when it’s this good, but still, I believe the characters might be it for me - They are INCREDIBLY written. They’re so interesting, complex, intriguing. There’s so many layers to them. I’m just so incredibly in awe. And I understand Alma so deeply. Her necessity to feel needed. And god!!!! Reynolds being aware of it all, and allowing it because that’s the only way he’s able to be vulnerable. It’s just too good. Everything. I’m left with the grandest feeling of admiration. PTA you’re just unbelievable. “I swear I’m only cryptic and machiavellian because I care.”
