Halloween
Haunting, Chilling, unforgettable, evocative, startling, eerie, nostalgic
These are the perfect words to describe Halloween (1978). Watching this in the dark late at night with no one in sight can be one of the most chilling experiences you can have. John Carpenter is strictly a genius when it comes to script and filmmaking. It's crazy how many high school/college kids just messing around created one of the most well-made, original, original, and authentic horror movies that have ever existed. This movie helped shape the slasher genre and helped create some of your favorite slashers! This movie was the inspiration. This was the blueprint.
The feeling I get while watching this movie is a feeling I have never experienced before with any other film. It never ceases to amaze me how this movie came to be. I remember watching a documentary on the making of this film a little while ago. I remember thinking, "Oh boy, I'm never going to see this movie the same way again" that thought still sticks with me to this day. Today, as I was outside looking around, feeling the cool breeze against my skin, I realized that fall was just around the corner, waiting to strike. What better way to kick off the fall season than with a bit of home viewing of Halloween, one of my all-time favorite movies of all time, my all-time favorite final girl of all time, and my all-time favorite horror icon. I also got a Halloween shirt in the mail today. Hence, many different signs pointed me toward rewatching this masterpiece.
My original plan was to do a double feature. I was going to watch Halloween followed by Halloween II. But those plans got a little messy, so I couldn't.
This film has so many things to appreciate every time you watch it. The way the shape stalks these teen girls throughout the entire runtime and the chilling classic music composed by the genius John Carpenter make these scenes terrifying. The score is one of the best things this movie brings to the table. I have been a HUGE Halloween fan ever since I saw it for the first time when I was nine years old. It's one of those movies that stuck with me, and ever since then, it has been one of my all-time favorites.
So these are all the things that make me admire this movie and how I fell in love with Halloween and Michael Myers. I always enjoy revisiting this classic movie, and I'm looking forward to rewatching one of my favorite franchises of all time.
