Akira
even with a beginner level grasp on film history, it's pretty easy to understand the impact this had on anime as a whole. Just looking at it, it is insane how visually stunning this is for an anime in the late 80s. looking past that however, I see one of the greatest anime films ever made.
I was NOT expecting Akira to face such heavy handed topics such as the illusion of control. right now only minutes after viewing I am still trying to process what I just watched, butI can tell you that it was quite an entertaining ride. I mean, how tough was that Tetsuo theme with the choir.
Seriously though, Akira handled human's attempt to control the incontrollable so well. It just goes to show how mankind will endlessly look for a better future in more power yet in that search, become the very weapon that gets us back to square one. At that point, when the materialistic items serve no use, it is only our relationships that matter.
Beautiful bold film, very much needs a rewatch.
