Apocalypse Now
I mean what else is there to say.
this is my third or fourth watch, I cant remember exactly. My first watch was on a tiny phone, second was on a regular sized TV, other one I cant remember, but this watch, I will count has my real first watch, as I viewed Apocalypse Now for the first time on an 100 inch TV with surround sound. this was life changing.
I know people say that if you notice editing, then there's something wrong with the editing, but the way this film uses editing is some of the best I have seen. each shot layers over the next like a fever dream, making it all the more immersive.
Apocalypse Now is also infamous for it's frantic shooting process. I mean if you really look at the film, you think to yourself, "How the fuck did they make this." constantly, there is things happening in the background. Helicopters flying, people running, flamethrowers. What does this do? It give the film LIFE. Apocalypse Now is one of, if not, the most alive film I have ever seen in my entire life, and it might not even be close.
I think what stands out as the best act in this film is the third act. Now this is most definitely not an easy decision, as all acts are so close when it comes to how well they were made, and how much I enjoyed them. but the third act brings us something different. It almost feels as though, we were never supposed to get this far, making us so unsure of what is next to happen. what follows is one of the most dreamlike induced sequence in all of cinema.
I'm not going to talk much about the ending, because I don't want to spoil it, but all I can say to all those who haven't seen it, it is an end so thought provoking, it goes up there with the endings of 2001: a space odyssey.
Basically what I am trying to say, is that surreal films are my type of shit, and Vietnam war films are my type of shit. So in summary, this is my fucking shit.
