Dune: Part Two
Fully ready to freeze myself until Dune: Messiah is out...
I don't want to sound overly optimistic but I think Denis Villeneuve's Dune has the chance at being the greatest trilogy of al time. I have given dune part 1 a 4.5 but I think it is a perfect movie that is the most successful build up and exposition in film history. If it wasn't for Dune 1, Dune Part 2 would never be this amazing. I watched this film 3 times in theaters and now I have the 4k Ultra HD of both of them and honestly, fi I had to give a set of films that will embodied my younger years, that came out during my younger years, the Dune trilogy will be the that. Yes, I am betting that Dune: Messiah will be the perfect conclusion to the trilogy, but is it really that crazy to believe that? After all we are in the hands of the great Denis Villeneuve, one of the greatest Sci-fi directors of all time.
I am someone who loves films with massive scale, and what made this watch so much better was including it with a back to back double feature with Dune 1. instead of both films feeling as though they were separate stories, the two merged together to create on ginormous epic of a motion picture. I have read Frank Herbert's Dune and I have to say, the films expand on what he did. yes the ideas are more sought out and he pulls some incredibly thought provoking concepts, but I really think it was a story made to be seen on a screen. In the book I was merely reading about the story while in the film I am in the story. this what I love better about film. It completes the illusion of immersion. yes, a 7 out of 10 book is maybe better than a 7 out of ten film, but a 10 out of 10 film is far superior to a book of the same rating. I may prove to hold bias, as these films are more special to me than most people. For all older generations, this is our Lord of the Rings. Our Dune
