Inglourious Basterds
It has been while since the last time I've seen this film, and a long one at that. In this second watching, I have yet to decide whether this, or his 2012 film, Django Unchained, is Quentin Tarantino's "Magnum Opus." that is a word I do not throw around lightly.
The aesthetic of Tarantino films is known by many, cinema lovers and casual moviegoers. something pops in his aesthetic, where you can tell this was one fun film to make. I find this unique aesthetic in everything that makes the film: lighting, editing, cinematography, sound... it all has this wildly exciting POP to it.
His films containing this "old cinema" vibe, also goes into this aesthetic concept, but I especially notice it in Inglorious Bastards. it brings us to this dilemma we see in so many modern movies where they just want to be so "different" from the rest of the pack, that they end up being the same. But with this film, the director gives us feelings that, contain similar vibes to classic cinema, yet somehow give us something refreshingly new as well. It's perfect.
I still must decide between Django and this, but nevertheless, these are films that should serve both as a magnum opus to one of the greatest directors of all time.
