The Thing
I will die on the hill that the practical effects do more for this film than any Cgi or even practical effects now could do. The aesthetic is unmatched.
John Carpenter’s 1982 cult classic masterpiece has ever right to be called so. From the Enicio Morricone score, to the stunning neon lighting, and to the one of a kind practical effects, The Thing is up there as one of the best horror movies of all time
I kind of just realized this watch the powerful cod war allegory this film holds. Not knowing who you should trust was a big social aspect and it is amazingly represented in this film. Even the last words saying to wait it out and see what happens, perfectly highlights the ambiguity of the outcome of the war, since obviously it was still happening at the time.
Overall, The Thing continues to be one of my winter classics.
