Interstellar
I first watched interstellar maybe 5 years ago and I didn’t think it reached the heights that people spoke about it I thought inception was significantly better in the 2nd tier of Nolan’s filmography. I gotta be honest though on this watch interstellar really did it for me, Nolan’s most emotionally driven film excels in nearly every aspect. My main gripe with interstellar was for a scientific space film the love is transcendent point felt like a cop out but this time I’ve changed my mind and I think it’s a compelling emotional climax. I think it works because the love he’s depicting is parental and not romantic I think the role and themes of fatherhood and parenthood are pheomeonal. It’s the type of emotional story that makes you want to call your parents after watching. I do think it’s weird that he kinda doesn’t really care abt his son but I also think there’s some societal point there where the father son dynamic is much more unspoken than that of father daughter. Overall on this watch I fell in love with interstellar and I think it’s easily his most emotional and passionate movie. It kinda left me as a wreck but I also think it might be of Nolan’s most satisfying endings. The Matt Damon subplot works incredibly well as does the Michael Caine ending he really weaves the story well throughout coopers journey. I still think he’s at the peak of his powers on his low budget mind twisters in memento and the prestige but with the ridiculous budgets and scales he got interstellar goes to prove he’s capable of turning them into phenomenal entries. For a film that is about saving the entity of earth and humanity it’s so drawn and emotional to see a relationship between father and daughter and I think that’s what impressed me the most.
