Crash
Crash is so unconcerned with telling a story and so completely concerned With making incredible commentary.
The shared modern human experience in a ball of twisted metal. Reviewing this is impossible I could ramble for hours about this and it would never do it justice. David Cronenberg’s camera captures the truly indescribable and is an incredible display of what sound and image can convey. The film is essentially just pure sub text. The main two characters go from car accident fetishists, to more intense car accident fetishists. Its core skeletal structure as a film is so fascinatingly and deceptively bizarre. This idea of structuring a film to explicitly not tell a story is absolutely ingenious. Crash cuts the bullshit instead of telling a story to display themes It displays themes that act as a story. Crash lays out a bunch of ideas and lets the viewer fill in the blanks.
Crash is a Rorschach test of sex metal and sadness. Each new person and each new viewing provide a wealth of new ideas, new emotions, and new angles to stare at it from. for all these reasons and more I find crash to be an interesting, rich, multifaceted, forever rewatchable, and mindbendingly thought provoking experience.
