i love imax. visually and thematically one of the best of the 2020’s. coogs visual style in sinners uses color, lighting, and sets incredibly which has always been something he made a priority. this movie conveys emotion so well too, but also never strays away tonally.
identity not only as a race but as a person and power are really explored in this movie. this movie is about as much of who you are internally as much as who you are externally. dont trust strange white people but dont end up like them. something about assimilation was really sticking to my brain. kinda funny seeing how all of these characters feel different, showing the range of the black experience. the religious tones of kinda making a deal with the devil versus finding redemption was cool. theres this artistic/cultural integrity thing that really hits but it kinda just goes back to assimilation. you cant become what you hate for power. I missed other story beats like community and freedom but man this movie good.
