Sinners
This film was unbelievably good. I normally don’t love the supernatural genre, but Sinners did everything right. The long build up to start the movie worked great, creating suspense and anticipation. The story was easy to follow yet complex in its own right, and had compelling side plots in addition to the phenomenal main plot. Nowadays most films only have a few dynamic characters, and most other characters feel like “placeholders.” However, this film felt as if every character had their own unique presence, even if they did not play a large role. I was entranced in this movie from start to end, and found myself feeling as though I was right alongside Smoke, Stack, Sammie, and the rest.
A large reason this film was so great was the acting. Michael B. Jordan did a stellar job portraying two different roles, and creating separate energies between each twin. It was frankly unbelievable that this was Miles Canton’s first film, and his acting will be thought of as one of the best performances in 2025 by the end of the year. Every actor felt fully committed to their character and understood the end result Ryan Coogler was trying to accomplish.
This movie is the result of every piece of filmmaking coming and working together in unison. Not only was the story and acting great, but the set pieces, score, cinematography, and costumes brought it together as a whole. Sinners is a visually stunning, imaginative and creative masterpiece in which everyone involved put forth their best effort to create a piece of film which far exceeds anything else released this year.
