First Reformed

Oh look, here casually lies one of the greatest films of the 21st century. If I was being conservative, I’d say this missed out on at least 5+ Oscar nominations and I’d argue wins. Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress should have been locked up. On a day like today with where everything lies, I have no other interest besides questioning every mistake that’s led me here and will continue to mentally punish myself for any other outlook. Hopelessness is the only response and without the full embrace of despair then you’ll be happily shielding those most innocent, most unsuspecting to an inescapable turnstile that has no escape except for blind courage. I just can’t rationalize in any way how you can choose to put that burden on someone with everything we know now. To answer one of the many damning questions that this film proposes, my answer is a resounding no. God will not forgive us nor should he. This is something that’s permanently latched itself to my entire ideology and weighs heavily upon my thoughts daily. “No, I have not lost my faith”
