i think they nailed the viewer expectations throughout — when anora’s up, youre honeymooning and simply excited for her. youre not thinking about what’s realistic, or the fact that the kids clearly not a great partner — youre just stoked she’s living it up and happy. time is flying (a ton of time in the movie passes, but it also feels quick) … but then the pacing slows to a crawl for the second half — from the second the parents find out, there are no time jumps for the rest of the movie. youre with anora for every second until the end, and the pace FEELS so much slower eventually the reality sets in, and both anora and the viewer are worn down. by the time that incredibly long search sequence is over and ivan is found, you no longer have any expectation that he’ll stick with her. the fantasy is no more masterfully done, what a rush
@michaeljecmen the pacing is such a good point. I hadn’t paid attention to that, but everything is moving so fast at first (time wise and in their relationship), but then the last two days drag on.
