Phantom Thread
I liked Phantom Thread a lot on my initial watch, but I wasn't on the point of truly loving it. Since then I have come around and finished the rest of Paul Thomas Anderson's filmography and perhaps the combined familiarity of his wider work and of the film itself drove me to the point where I believe that this is a masterpiece. I will even go so far as to say that it is my favourite of PTA's films.
I can't think of any film like it; so tender, intricate and layered. While it is somehow simple in its use of cinematic devices I kept thinking that it is impossible to make a film like this.
I understand why others might not think this highly of it, even I didn't on my first watch, but there is just something about it that I truly love.
