Poor Things
This film took the “maybe the real” Bella Baxters are the friends we’ve made all the way, joke, way too seriously. I’m gonna be so real when I say this movie deserves almost every Oscar nomination it received. The acting performances are super great (especially from Emma Stone whom I would not be upset if she took it) The costuming and hairstyling is amazing along with the complimentary production design. The score needs more love, it’s phenomenal and abstract, it relates perfectly with the film. The editing and cinematography is effective and it perfectly compliments the screenplay, and the directing pulls it all together. I’m not saying I think It should get all of the nominations but I must say it definitely deserves all of them. This film manages to be both complex and entertaining. Many filmmakers forget that movies should be enjoyable, not just pretentious mush (Maestro). I do wish It leaned a little more into the feminism and a little less in the sexual liberation. But regardless it’s a fantastic film.
“So I am your creation. As is the other one.—Neither of you are that. She wanders the halls with a hammer and a song, that is not my doing, and I have read your cards and letters home and watched you fearlessly create Bella Baxter with wonder”
