Drive
God I love everything about this film, where do I even start! The cinematography is off the charts with beautiful visuals as well as the dreamy neon lights that make L.A. feel so dream like! I love the shot of drivers jacket after the elevator scene, as it shows the scorpion on drivers jacket in reference to the scorpion and the frog story, I also really like how in the getaway scene from the opening you never see driver and the robbers in the same shot, showing how driver dosent see himself in the same light as these robbers which is also hammered home by his conversation with Benicio later on in the film. The soundtrack is phenomenal with many of the songs ending up on my spotify playlist, I love how synthwave everything is with tick of the clock building up so much tension in the opening getaway and how nightfall plays over scenes showing the neon colored streets of L.A.. I also love real human being being played when driver goes on a "date" with Irene showing how for once in his life he feels happy with the beautiful orange hues from the sun! The sound design was great from the all the engines reving when in the high speed car chases to something more subtle like hearing the leather gloves and drivers clenches his fist, it all works so well. There wasn't a bad performance in this at all with the stand outs being Bryan Cranston as Shannon where he really brings the character to life and makes him seem so interesting where the character could have easily just been put to the side and forgotten about, and the other standout performance being Albert brooks as Bernie where he is able to play this more upbeat personality and instantly change it to a dark and scary role, hats off to both of them! If your looking for a great neo noir you need to watch this and if you do end up watching this please check out the 4K UHD Blu-ray, it looks so good!
