Good Time
I will die on the hill that this is a straight up masterpiece, at least for me. From the cinematography, editing, lighting, score, script, and performances, everything works together so perfectly.
The cinematography uses so many close up shots to give a boxed in feeling throughout the film. It makes you feel so claustrophobic with these characters who are trying to deal with each problem as it hits them. The beautiful use of neon colors to portray a neon soaked new york. The editing is fast paced as you try and keep up with Connie and gives you that sense of anxiety that never lets up. The second that title card is off the screen, the story grabs you and dosent let go until the fucking end. There's a constant snowball effect of these characters making bad decision after bad decision that you can't help but look at. Robert Pattinson is an absolute beast in this. I truly believe his perfomance here is what cemented him as a phenomenal actor and away from his twilight days. I mean, for christ sake, his perfomance here is what got him Batman! The score is a beautiful synthwave score which has its calmer moments but can speed up real quick for the films high anxiety moments. I've had some of the songs from here on repeat the last few weeks with my personal favorites being the opening track good time, leaving the park, and of course, the closing track the pure and the damned.
This is my favorite A24 film. Dare I say, one of A24s more underrated films as well. After this rewatch, it has Definitely earned a place in my top 4!
