Anora
I was fond of Sean Baker before, but he has to be one of my favourite modern directors at this point, I just love the way he follows his characters - and the character writing and comedy in Anora has to the best I’ve seen from him so far. I love that he hasn’t lost his style, even when working with such a bigger scope than the films he found his groove with.
and god that was one of the most tragic endings to one of the funniest films of the year. I’m so used to him ending his films with a sloppy fantasy sequence, or an uplifting tone, that I sat watching the end in despair just wishing it would have cut 5 or so minutes earlier.
