Nowhere
it still feels so weird to see this in HD, and not through a crummy DVD or scrambled Internet Archive upload. not used to it lol.
Something I’ve thought about Nowhere, but never shared, is that: this is an asexual film to me. I’ve always related to Dark’s hyper-sensual personality, and how out of place he feels while everyone else is at their most sexually liberated. Like, even though sex is the front and focus of a lot of this movie’s sequences, I rarely find it “sexy”. Every sex scene feels like it’s been painted over by Dark’s yearning for a loving partner, in a vapid environment. It’s all entertaining, sure, but hardly titillating. There’s a disconnect.
Highly recommend Mysterious Skin, to anyone who takes this film as seriously as I do. That one makes you feel a lot less dumb for thinking it’s deep. It’s more explicitly a masterpiece than this surrealist, pop-art inspired shitpost is. My favourite film 💚
