Boogeyman
Ghost House Pictures™ intertwined into a bizarro urban myth enhanced by Kripke’s distorted portrayal of grief and guilt into New Zealand’s scenery disguised as backwoods America. Boogeyman parallels with Supernatural: the girlfriend’s being named Jessica->bathtub scene reminiscent of the Dead in the Water episode->darkened vibes/blue hues of the inevitable 2000’s->main character(s) overcoming paranormal/abnormal evil—more-so, Boogeyman is an extended Supernatural episode. Stephen Kay takes on J-horror influences + the remake craze at the time to invoke monster-in-the-closet chills with logics being entirely abandoned in the third act—it’s all about the desolate/looming post-Autumn windfalls/drifting leaves/fog-covered vibes and nothing more. The best of its time.
