Eternity
Holy crap.
For starters, this film surpassed every expectation I had of it; which is saying a lot considering how high my expectations were. I absolutely loved everything about it.
The aesthetics were genuinely stunning. Every single set had so much intention behind it and the way they played out the archive scenes was amazing. I am so in love with the coloring on this film too, It definitely didn’t fall into the sad muted contrastless aesthetic that is seen so often in modern cinema. Even the wardrobe had so much intention behind every choice, having Joan in the same shirt as Luke but the same colors as Larry during the decision scene was so beautiful to watch especially considering the way the film played out.
Holy crap the way it played out. It genuinely threw me through a loop I was not expecting. I am a sucker for rom coms and this is EASILY my new favorite. This film wasn’t your typical rom com, Larry wasn’t this perfect dream boat man. Especially not in the way Luke was, but she still chose him. This film did a phenomenal job showing love as it is, messy. It is a jumbled up, confusing, overwhelming, mess. It just did such a good job at showing us that love isn’t the way it’s painted in books and movies. People aren’t perfect and their actions reflect that.
They show us that Larry can be selfish and Luke can be overbearing. They show us that Joan and Luke have this “perfect” love. But she still. Choses. Larry. Simply because love isn’t perfect and it doesn’t always need to be. The love that matters most is the imperfect kind. The kind where people mess up and make mistakes. They make bad choices and get mad at each other, but in the end that’s what makes it so real.
Forever morning I missed this in theaters
