Django Unchained

9.6 Django Unchained is a visually striking Western, filled with sweeping, sun-soaked landscapes and gritty close-ups that reflect classic Western films. Tarantino keeps the pacing energetic for most of the film, balancing tense standoffs with bursts of bloody action. The cast shines—Jamie Foxx’s cool determination, Christoph Waltz’s charming wit, and Leonardo DiCaprio’s unhinged cruelty create a great trio. However, the dinner sequence at Calvin Candie’s plantation, while brilliantly acted, lingers too long after Schultz’s and Candie’s verbal duel reaches its peak, slowing momentum before the explosive finale. Despite this, Django Unchained remains an unforgettable film, seeing as it is my first Tarantino film and I can’t to watch the next.
