Sinners
This film holds a special place in my heart
“Last time I seen my brother, Last time I seen the sun”
It’s just one of the greatest films of last year and one of my personal favourites ever. It blends everything you need to make a film you have such a great cast with Michael B Jordan, Hailee Steinfield, Delroy Lindon and the absolutely incredible debut by Miles Caton who was snubbed from an Oscar nomination. The cast comes together and just makes this absolutely beautiful as a film.
You have the amazing Ryan Coogler who shows why he’s truly one of the best directors today the way this film was made and just the impressive techniques used to make this is just so cool and shows why he truly deserves the Oscar for best director.
Then you have that incredible soundtrack and score which blends and just the best part of the film the use of blues and Irish jig music shows various different cultures and historical aspects of the world. Especially the “i lied to you” full sequence soon as that ratio change happens you know your witnessing a masterpiece.
This film is truly hard to point out any negatives because the first half is also perfection I love the scene where Smoke goes to the town to recruit Grace and her husband and it’s the small details of the streets separated and segregated displaying the historical elements of segregation through Jim Crowe. It’s the smaller details you notice which make this film a masterpiece just like Sammie growing up where the same style hat as Stack showing he was young ambitious and still growing but when we see older Sammie we see a hat more styled as Smoke showing he’s more wise and even showing that he’s thankful and that maybe he grew up admiring Stack and now it’s recognition that it should of been Smoke.
I’d do anything for this film.
The academy better not snub this film.
