Anything Else
There isn’t much that separates Anything Else from the rest of Woody Allen’s filmography, but it’s a wonderful film nonetheless. The characters are fleshed out, the dialogue is engrossing, and the vibes are on point. It took me a moment to gel with Jason Biggs’ performance, and while I still don’t think he’s perfect in the role, his presence definitely grew on me over time. It’s also refreshing to see Woody Allen in a supporting role, and he does a tremendous job.
Christina Ricci, however, is the standout—she captures her character’s impulsive, chaotic energy while still keeping her somewhat sympathetic. Anything Else is a funny film with an engaging narrative throughout. Sure, it’s a bit uninspired, considering Allen has made this exact type of film multiple times, but if you’re a fan of his work like I am, you’ll almost certainly get a kick out of it.
