Phantom Thread
Stunningly beautiful. From Greenwood’s opening score you’re immediately taken in by the allure and grandeur of Woodcock’s life whilst PTA routinely exposes how shallow and vacuous it can all be. Somehow uncomforting whilst incredibly comfy to watch. Intensely romantic depiction of fleeting, waning idolisation and toxicity. The two embracing amongst the balloons at New Year’s Eve might be my favourite shot in all of cinema. I wish I owned everything DDL wears in this.
