Soul
this movie means absolutely everything to me and then some. films like this are the reason that cinema exists, and i'm not exaggerating at all when i say that it changed me as a person on my first viewing.
of course, soul is sonically and visually gorgeous; the 2020s have been an impressive time for pixar on these fronts. more importantly, though, this movie is thematically beautiful and universally relevant. i am confident that every human being can benefit from watching this movie because it's quite literally a love letter to being alive. it's a comforting reminder that life is worth living, no matter how you choose to live, and it's a wake-up call that some need to realize that their life has inherent meaning, even when it feels like it doesn't. i think that the world needed to see themes of purpose and existence attacked in this way, and i'm grateful that pete docter decided to embark on that journey every single day!
this movie is heartwrenching & enlightening & inspiring & witty & reassuring & moving & raw. it's just an EXPERIENCE, and it's one that every person should have. and, sure, maybe i'll cry every time, but i'll never stop rewatching this film because, to me, it's one of the most powerful ones out there <3
