The Dreamers
just finished this amazing movie. I’m not sure fully why I liked this movie as much as I did but it was pretty great. this movie felt very genuine and real which was something I didn’t expect going into it.
What I liked a lot about this movie was how it felt so contained but never boring or dull. this movie primarily takes place inside an apartment for the majority of the movie. despite this, instead of feeling limited, it felt focused if that’s the right way of saying it. the film did a good job on making it feel like you’re sitting there with the characters, watching their relationships unfold and develop over the time they spend together. It didn’t feel like a structured and planned movie but rather like you’re watching things unfold in real time which kept the movie more engaging and interesting.
I also really liked how the movie revolved around film itself. the main 3 characters bonded over their shared love for film which was pretty cool. the dreamers had several references to real movies which was neat to see. both characters Matthew and Theo talk about it a lot as well. the whole movie really revolved around film itself.
All performances were really strong too, all very real, nothing superficial. nothing felt fake and the way they all interacted made everything feel more real. the constant shifts between playful and serious moments was a great take to have in this movie.
overall, this movie was super great and clicked with me. definitely a nice movie…
