Hell Fest
welcome to hellfest… i’m actually in love with this movie a bit. from the characters, to the deaths, to the overall PREMISE of the film— i was interested from start to finish, like cmon, it’s a pretty unique movie to begin with. first of its kind as far as i’m aware, and it executed the idea rather flawlessly i’d say. okay let’s be honest, we all wish that hell fest was a real thing so that we could all go, and anyone who says that they don’t is lying straight through their teeth. but i can’t say that i’m ever going to view haunted houses or amusement parks the same after watching this movie. it’s honestly so scary to imagine being murdered in a haunted house, yet everyone thinks it’s just part of the house, so they do absolutely NOTHING to help you. this movie’s so real because.. i feel like that could easily happen. it’s not very often that i find a movie where i like all of the characters, but this one was able to do that for me, shockingly. i loved natalie as a protagonist and i’m glad that she claimed that final girl position with brooke, but I HAVE SUCH A vendetta with this movie since it murdered one of its best characters first. i’ll never forgive you hellfest for the murder of gavin, that was very crippling and heartbreaking. OKAY but while on the topic, gavin definitely had the best death in the entire film, even if there were really only two good ones; however, the spot WOULD have gone to taylor had that guillotine not been a fake out. the way his head got smashed and it cut to that one hammer bell game had me gagged, but it was really nice cinematography, which happens to be another highlight of this movie. with a setting like this, the usage of vivid visuals was crucial in making this movie as good as it was, and it helped so so much that they were perfectly executed. moving on, think i’m in love with both gavin and natalie at once bc they’re both just so great. they’re cute, awkward flirting was just so me and for me and i loved. it’s such a shame that was cut off so soon— i’m gonna complain about that forever. that’s the one thing you’re gonna hear me say that this movie did poorly every single time it’s brought up. i thought the concept of the killer was also really cool as he disguised himself as an ordinary employee, so nobody would have any clue other than those being terrorized.. he was rather genius for that, but he was a sick fuck. i don’t care how much he wants to hum pop goes the weasel, THAT MAN IS INSANE committing murder on innocent people for his enjoyment. that entire scene at the end is pretty cool though since we get to see that he’s done this multiple times before, getting away with it to return to his average life.. scary thought that ordinary people can do these things, no reason necessary. OH MY GOD, the hell maze was so fun and scary, like i’d cry going through that definitely. there’s no way i would have survived that final battle shit, i would’ve been brooke begging on the floor.. natalie really fucking pulled through in the end because i actually thought brooke was donezo for a second. i am really glad though that 2/3 of my favorite characters made it to the end- they avenged gavin just for me. excellent and likable final girls, check and check, but i would’ve loved to add a final boy into the mix. STUPID ASS DEATH. some other things i enjoyed without full detail: literally any gavin and natalie scene (ring toss and photo booth especially), the slowmo scene of natalie trying to save taylor, the double death that caught me off guard, brooke and quinn as second best ship, and the faces that natalie made throughout the earlier movie that sent me so hard. overall, i love this movie as it seemingly did everything right for me. the characters are great, the deaths are amazing, the haunted maze/house elements are elite, and it’s just such a scary thought to have in floating in the back of my mind… i have a very specific phobia of demon clowns.
