Before Sunset
I remember when I watched this the first time and the state I was in. I like a lot of movies but watching this now months down the line it felt like there were hooks in my chest dragging me into my cracked and shattered screen.
I love these two, i know everyone who’s ever seen this probably feels like this but i feel so familiar with both of them like little parts of myself on screen.
There’s so many moments I just adore, especially rewatching it trying to guess where his plan forms and when, what moment he decides he’s missing the plane and staying. It’s before he gives her the lift home I’m sure, it might have been on the boat but I like to think it was the second she said she couldn’t play without a guitar he knew.
The scene in the car might be one of my favourite scenes from any movie ever, when she raises her hand to his head but pulls it back as he snaps his head without knowing she’s there is seared into my head. The tears that well up in both of their eyes as the keep on just feeling seen and heard in the other throughout is so sweet.
I want to just list moments from this I love it’s 1:20 am I was meant to be asleep an hour ago I only meant to watch half of this but I couldn’t stop myself.
The hard cut to her face out from the flashback instead of some drawn out reveal where he notices her off screen.
The cafe scene was in another review I read and probably liked it’ll be bellow but when he gets his eyes pulled away by the cigarettes and the smoke it’s the same way he looks at her. He just wants one draw of hers but then fully dives in. It feels like all the moments in this movie is one of them dipping their toes in before deciding to dive head first into the pool only to find the other one already in it.
The boat scene just in general
I’m skipping the car scene just watch it
The guitar that was already tuned to the waltz for Jesse
The fade away left on the “I know” I couldn’t imagine being left on that for so many years.
This is in the top 4 fuck you le samouraï
Goodnight
