Prisoners
"Pray for the best, but prepare for the worst."
One of the most devastating films I've ever seen (just like Incendies). Villeneuve is an expert at leaving me with this feeling of uncertainty when his films end, a mixture of calm and helplessness. There's a reason he's my favorite director.
Prisoners is a modern masterpiece, another 5 star film to add to the golden collection of Denis's filmography.
Its story, performances, cinematography, and especially its pacing make it a unique film that, while drawing you into the case presented through a journey into the thoughts and emotions of its characters, shatters your mind and makes you question everything you see on screen.
It's been a long time since I've finished a film and been literally speechless. I missed this feeling of having your thoughts about such a devastating yet hopeful ending be stronger than anything else happening around you at that moment. I watched it with my girlfriend and we didn't say a word during almost the entire credits, the only time I spoke was to ask her, "Do you understand why Villeneuve is my favorite director?"
Its score is simply spectacular.
Another masterpiece from Denis Villeneuve that will surely be considered one of the best films ever made.
I love you Jake Gyllenhaal.
