I’m lost for words. I tried to go into this with the lowest expectations, so my experience could be the best possible. While that is still a working progress, this film is the polar opposite. This one of the best sequels ever. Everything that was great about the original was expanded on. The lore, no one can do it better than Villeneuve. He’s deserving of all his praise and more. I can actually see some comparisons to dune as officer K believes he was the “miracle” drawing similarities to the chosen one. From the very start in draws you in with the text from a retrospective standpoint. The visuals transcend that of anything prior to it and really does stand above all of its genre. The first “retirement” scene was jaw-dropping. Seeing the significance of it on the latter was even more astonishing. Everything in this film is so connective - so beautiful - leaving no plot holes whatsoever.
The twists and turns this movie takes are incredible. My jaw hurts because of how much it dropped and how much I’ve talked about this film. I left It a couple days to fully take in and understand all that I just watched, while I’m still getting to grasps with that, I figured this film is more than masterful. The acting was sublime. Denis really gets everything out of his cast. The subtlety in parts of gosling’s performance really does give me the impression that he is a replicant (I’m trying so hard not to spoil). Really needs to see more Denis and gosling collaborations. Harrison Ford really is one-of a-kind, more than a generational talent. The day he stops making movies, will be a very sad day. The themes explored in the first are developed more in this. Lonliness can be seen as a virtue but also a burden. Identity is just as important in the story. Crafted meticulously, the story really had everything you would need. The screenplay was written to its best; and as intricate as possible. The pacing was also amazing but slightly slacking in some areas. The beauty of this film is that it takes you on a journey of getting lost and found (not the actual story) but technically. It kept some of that “un- watchability” but I don’t take that as a major disadvantage or a disadvantage at all. The weirdness of this film really does make for a phenomenal shot film. The lighting helped convey a futuristic style, which Villenueve contributed to further. That final scene is reminiscent of the Roy Batty “in the rain” sequence. I was astounded by that scene and the film itself; honestly, I was overwhelmed with emotion. But I guess “dying for the right cause is the most human thing we can do.
