"The world is a fine place and worth fighting for. I agree with the second part." 💯
Visible shock. That’s what I saw as the credits rolled on this film. Not only in the people around me, but also In me. The intricacy of this plot hasn’t been match since. I doubt it ever will. Fincher really is a mastermind. He’s climbing up my favourite directors list rapidly. Brad Pitt gives one of his best performances in this. During the final scene you can really see emotion, it feels truly real. The pity I felt for David is a one-of-a-kind feeling. The subtlety of Morgan Freemans performance provided the perfect act for a detective. This film is layered with references and complex subtext. Some of it like the “chosen one” trope is a true testament to the greatness of this film. There wasn’t a character that wasn’t compelling. I hate to say it, but Kevin spacey was so great in the role of John Doe. When I think of psychopaths and mentally insane people I’ll think of that character. The turning in scene was so nuanced just like most of the dialogue in this film. That links to the basis of how well-written this film is. I can’t pick a single flaw out of this film. The pacing was absolutely incredible. It flies by while still feeling like a full motion picture. The last 20 minutes was nail-bitingly insane. Hitchcock may have the title, but Fincher is the modern day master of suspense. He perfectly mixes emotion and suspense during the last scene. Perfection and thrillers at their finest.
