Halloween
i will always associate halloween 2018 with getting shit from youtubers and podcasters for not properly using their tascam and having shit audio.
3 feels too low but 4 feels too high. like it's competently made with a few very solid sequences and maybe some of the best scares of the franchise. the acting is good and james jude courtney is a solid runner-up as the scariest michael. i guess i can't help but be cynical about this franchise. i absolutely loved this when it came out but i can't help but roll my eyes at half the scenes. carpenter and zombie (say what you will) have established styles, the trauma and family themes were already exhausted by 2018, some of the editing is baffling and multiple conversations go on way too long. it's definitely not all bad but i can't help but be overly critical knowing that david gordon green and blumhouse are capable of making good things but instead made halloween kills and the exorcist: believer using this as their leverage.
