Longlegs
this has been the most viscerally scared i’ve been by a movie since lake mungo and even then it doesn’t quite dethrone it. the big centerpiece of this is the relationships between parent and child. without getting too personal, it really spoke a lot to me especially as someone who is super close to both of my parents.
nic cage is the thing people have been talking about. his performance is funny/off-putting but as soon as you put yourself into these situations it is so fucking scary. the scene where he sings is funny out of context but i almost had a panic attack while watching it in context. even the way there are no answers about what his deal is or his background really reflects a lot of serial killers and hits way too close to home. i do also appreciate that the film is deliberate with how much is shown with the murders. the website is much more intense and worked for that format but i think it would have been too much for what this movie is.
i know there were two big issues that people had with this, but for me it didn’t really affect the outcome for me. maybe i just read it differently but i think there isn’t one entirely correct reading of this.
