Interstellar
After my first rewatch, I can truly appreciate the immense beauty of this film. Love is the most powerful force in the universe, even more powerful than time and gravity itself, it’s omnipotent and omnipresent.
This film is visually stunning, a true marvel of what filmmaking can be.
It’s horrible to compare this movie and 2001 - but I still favour 2001. However, they both explore space in a completely different way. Nolan explores cinema as a science, and understands space’s content much more thoroughly. However, Kubrick understands space’s concept more thoroughly, and views space as an omnipresent observer. Kubrick suggests that space has no obligation to humanity, no obligation to explain itself to us - and therefore many people find 2001 ‘boring’ or too ‘confusing’.
This film is truly Nolan’s masterpiece - but who knows? Maybe ‘The Odyssey’ will change that.
