Rocky
Like I said anything before 2025 wasn’t me.
The film starts out surprisingly bleak, depressing and cold hearted. It doesn’t feel lively, in a lot of ways it felt like the other film that came out that year being TaxI Driver. I felt that Rocky was extremely antisocial in ways, I liked his character and often felt a lot of sympathy for him. However I really loved how awkward and out of place he felt in some scenes. At times I felt really bad for him, his life isn’t exactly perfect; in this as shown. But he’s trying to make it through his life. Sylvester Stallone does a challenging performance of sorrow and pain, but later brings a masterful sense of motivation and confidence. He really pushes himself in this, both Sylvester and Rocky I feel. One for making the challenges of making this film, the other for his lifestyle in this film.
What I feel the film does so well is balancing the pain and suffering of his life/lifestyle and the position he’s in. But then also showing him developing as a character, the development is genius and so well executed; my favourite bit about it is his montages and his love for Adrian. He uses this love to push himself, make himself the best version of himself and most of all never give up. I LOVE how he never gives up. The boxing scene in the end makes me tear up because of how far he’s come as it’s so beautiful for many reasons; mostly due to the journey from beginning to end. This film was surprisingly really upsetting to watch at times. While it’s claimed to be a film of motivation and resilience. There are a lot of times for example the first hour or so that is just so heartbreaking to watch.
The cut the eyelid scene always makes me squeamish but also so amazed at his determination. It is such a motivational film and a great scene in the film. Showing how he’s come this far and he’s not giving up; the resilience on him is insane and I fear we all should feel this way. Although maybe not cutting open your eyelid so you can see in a fight, but you get the idea. Rocky is such a monumental moment in cinema history and it’s such a masterclass of its time. It’s way better than whatever I was thinking with my shit mental health in 2024. This film is truly one of the perfect films I’ve seen; basically meaning one of the greatest films of all time. I think it’s something I could return to over and over and never get bored of it. While the journey is tough; the destination is immaculate.
I truly love this film, it’s honestly such a masterpiece. Truly an engaging film, that tackles some dark themes and issues at times with the cruel world and situation they’re in. But manages to be insanely uplifting too. Honestly I could talk about this film for hours its one of my favourite films I’ve seen, it’s such a great achievement and I’m proud that Sylvester Stallone for managing to finally get this through and made. Is it better than Taxi Driver? Well I’ll have to find out when I rewatch that as again anything before 2024 wasn’t me!! Should I see the sequels; are they any good? Also really hope they do a 50th anniversary next year for this film at this cinema!!😍
Someday I will find my Adrian❤️
