Practical Magic
“My darling girl, when are you going to realize that being normal is not necessarily a virtue? It rather denotes a lack of courage!”- Aunt Frances Owens
of course this is my favourite film, how could it not be when what i’ve grown up with also is a house full of females, cats, a house by the sea, plants and the known fact that men/love can disturb that serene lifestyle (and have with our father, our growth into adulthood and my sisters taste, she’s more jilly atm ). my mother played this throughout our life and often said we were witches of the owen’s family kind. it wasnt until my teenage years did i realise we were.
although my mother didn’t meddle in other peoples love lives she always reassured us she would end up an old witch overlooking my sister and i’s relationships ensuring we found our gary not our jimmy. and that my sister and i would be as thick as sally and jilly.
although my mothers efforts my sister is in her stage of life that jilly was in (bad influence, distancing herself from my mother and i) i hope we will someday get find the point where we become what the two sisters became in the end- sisters and best friends.
