Parasite
“aren’t we fortunate to be worrying about things like this?”
wow, so grateful that i was not only finally able to get around to watching this, but that i was able to watch it in theaters; it’s so easy to see why it won best picture. from the moment it starts, you’re instantly captivated by this family who are simply attempting to make ends meet and scrape by in life; as things begin to look up for them, you even start to find yourself rooting for them. as the story progresses, they even begin to have somewhat of a conceited mindset, displayed when they engage with people who they see as “less” than them … it really shows the corruption that wealth can have, but it’s even more beautifully depicted as listen to the conversations that the truly wealthy have, demonstrating that despite their beliefs and best efforts, the kim family will always be “subway people.”
the final act was absolutely insane and god does it continue to linger long after the credits roll … it truly poses the question of whether the parasite are the kims who latch onto the parks for money, or the parks, whose comfortable lifestyle depends solely on the labor of others? god it’s so well done.
