This ties up WKW's other films in a way I never thought possible. I feel bits and pieces from his earlier works coming together to create this masterpiece. I don't think I can fully appreciate this after just one watch, but I still think it's one of his best.
Love that this tries to (somewhat) continue the story of if not the best romance film of all time, and does something completely unexpected while still respecting and building upon In the Mood for Love. WKW takes our "what-ifs" in regards to Tony Leung's character and, throws the unrealistic happy endings we try to visualize for him out the window and shows us how things would really go. Yes, it helps that it is a sequel to a masterpiece, but that's what makes The Godfather Part II so great.
Also, gotta love that soundtrack.
