Every time I watch a Kurosawa I find myself in awe. There’s so much here that served as the building blocks for every movie that I love that’s come out since. It’s so special and epic. There’s so much scale. He’s the best director to ever tackle Shakespeare and for a filmmaker that dabbled very little in color, fuck does he know how to utilize it. Tragic, epic, beautiful, slow, methodical, painful, but most of all, just an unbelievable achievement in film.
