Anora
i rewatched this film again but this time taking notes and i just wanted to point out a few things i didn't talk about earlier:
- at first, the red scarf is used to shut her up while she was trying to escape but while they're looking for ivan, she ends up using it because of the cold. she transformed something that it was used against her into something that made her strong. and now when you think of anora you also think of her red scarf.
- the difference between ivan's family (including him) and igor, toros and garnik. upper class people treat sex workers with disgrace and they don't care about their security because they think these women deserve the reality they have to face.
- i talked about this in another review but something that really stuck up with me since the first time i watched this film is how anora firmly thinks that igor is gay because all the men she's met in her work have never respected her.
- the last scene is heartbreaking. the significance of it, for me, is that anora thinks her destiny is never being truly loved and always being seen as a sexual object and nothing more.
