„It‘s showtime“ Satoshi Kon‘s mindbending Paprika is a wild rollercoaster straight through the unconscious. A rewatch certainly pays off (in the cinema 😋), first time i watched it i didn‘t understand shit. Paprika perfectly blurs the borders between dreams, reality and technology. Watching Paprika jump through monitors, into advertising or movie posters will never not be fascinating to me. The animation is vibrant and breathtaking, featuring the iconic, somewhat eerie dream parade, matched with a soundtrack that is stuck with you long past the credits roll. If you loved Nolans Inception (inspired by Kon’s psychological thriller) but wished it had way more color and a lot more attitude, Paprika is your ultimate must-watch.
