Inherent Vice
Has a similar thesis as Paterson (though with a completely opposite tone) in that every group, agency, and individual you’re familiar with is all at some kind of harmony because to perceive them all as having different motivations and allegiances is just too complicated to fathom. So instead, we’re all just moving around, figuring each other out, never quite able to hold on to anything (“this doesn’t mean we’re back together”) but there is some comfort in knowing that the tides of memory and time will bring everything back in balance and it will drop right into your lap when it’s supposed to (as does practically every bit of evidence that comes Doc’s way). A profound piece of work. I could watch it forever.
