Mission: Impossible - FalloutMurphy10.0· July 4, 2023FollowOn an eighth time, watching it after the other five, obviously it stands out because of its tone. It's heavier, bigger, and I think what's doing the main heavy lifting there is the score. This movie owes (almost) just as much to Lorne Balfe as it does to Tom or McQ. There are so many sequences that go from fine to holyshitwhat'shappening because of the thunderous score, something this franchise hasn't really had before. It reminds me of The Social Network or Inception where the music is an active participant in the story, which is rarer and rarer these days. Anyway, it's still perfect and by far the best. The thing I appreciated this time is when they do the bit in front of Walker where they accuse Hunt of being John Lark, all the performances are like kind of bad, and it's because the characters are acting. I think it's funny when actors deliberately act badly and it's really noticeable when you know they're lying. Great movie. Probably the best action movie I've ever seen. I can't think of another one that's this complex, this heavy, this efficient, but also leaves time to breathe and laugh. So I'm bumping it up to the score it deserves. Happy birthday, America. And Ethan...I'll see you in six days...CommentsSign in to react and join the conversation.Sign inGet the appSee all Murphy's reviews for Mission: Impossible - Fallout (9)First watch10.0July 29, 2018Rewatch 110.0August 4, 2018Rewatch 210.0September 12, 2018Rewatch 310.0December 7, 2018Rewatch 410.0December 14, 2018Rewatch 510.0January 17, 2019Rewatch 610.0November 19, 2020Rewatch 710.0July 4, 2023Rewatch 810.0May 6, 2025
